Snag - Trans-Canada Highway, Redcliff, AB, Canada - 1 of 54 images from the series Snag

By Wes Bell

I was leaving for the airport after saying goodbye to my mother. She was dying of cancer. Driving across the Alberta prairie, I found myself distracted by flapping remnants of plastic bags, caught in barded-wire fences. Whipped violently by the wind, they were left shredded and lacerated, but trapped in the no man's land of boundary fences, neither here nor there. Thinking of mortality, pain and death, these forgotten shreds took on a deeper significance. Snag. 11" x 14" Gelatin Silver Print
